Course Description

In this course students will study the language of poetry, persuasive writing and film. They will be assessed using asTTLe for reading and writing twice in the year.  Students will sit an examination at the end of the year in reading and writing.  Students will prepare for the literacy requirement.

Course Overview

Term 1
Poetry - Students will study the language of poetry through a range of poems and respond through written, oral and visual modes. This unit will include reciprocal reading of poetry. Students will sit an asTTLe reading and writing standardized assessment.

Term 2
Persuasive Writing - Students will study the language of persuasive writing through a range of persuasive pieces and create their own persuasive writing utilizing the PEEL or TEEPEE structures. This unit will include the reciprocal reading of a range of persuasive writing pieces. This unit will focus on framing an angle, grammar and sentence construction.

Term 3
Film - Students will study the language of film through either a feature film or a variety of short films and respond through written, oral and visual modes. Students will develop a response to a film question utilizing the PEEL or TEEPEE structure. This unit will focus on the explanation of film techniques, grammar and sentence construction in the expository mode of writing.

Students will sit an asTTLe reading and writing standardized assessment.

Term 4
Students will prepare for the examination.

Recommended Prior Learning

Year 9 English is recommended prior learning.
