This is a highly practical course for students who enjoy Physical Education, maintaining their own health and fitness and being active. The aim of this course is to engage students in a wide range of physical activities to enhance personal fitness, develop interpersonal skills, explore their willingness to participate and deepen our understanding of how being physically active can enrich our lives.
In this course students will:
Term 1
In term 1 students will participate in a wide variety of sports and activities and consider the factors that influence their own participation. Activities will include team sports such as Soccer and Ultimate, individual games like badmiton and table tennis and recreational activites such as Petanque and golf. Students are encouraged to consider factors such as how they practise to improve, supporting others to be active, developing new skills and contributing to a team.
Term 2
In term 2 students will continue to be active with a view of improving their interpersonal skills. By looking at and learning how interpersonal skills such as good communication, problem solving, cooperation and supporting others positively impacts others students can improve their own skills in these areas. During this term students will also perform a sport and be assessed on the practical skills they display.
Term 3
During term 3 students will be challenged to think about their own self management skills and how they implement these strategies to ensure they are successfully achieving. Through a planned fitness program students will learn a variety of warm up and cool down activities, different methods and principles of training and ways to stay active and fit now and in the future.
Term 4
This term students will complete any outstanding standards as well as spending time focussing on their own health and wellbeing as they finish the year and prepare for their first expereince of NCEA
