Recommended Prior LearningFull participation in Year 10 Health
The aim of this course is to enhance students’ knowledge of the health curriculum and how they can make decisions best for them in social settings. This is a theoretical course which covers all four dimensions of Hauora such as interpersonal skills, personal well-being and positive sexuality. This year we will be completing an external exam which allows students to take control of their own learning, in which they will investigate two different health issues in New Zealand.
Term 1
This term there is an individual assessment that requires each student to set goals to improve their Hauora. These goals can be around reducing stress, getting enough sleep and nutrition. They will set actions for 3 weeks and complete a log to show what the barriers and enablers are and evaluate how they can keep it up or do better for themselves next time.
Term 2
This term there is a mixture of group and individual work that requires them to demonstrate interpersonal skills such as assertive communication and active listening. They are then required to comprehensively explain how these skills can enhance relationships.
Term 3
This term there is an individual assessment that requires students to provide strategies that promote positive sexuality through positive interpersonal skills, and consider ways that schools and the community can support all sexualities.
During this term you will also start to prepare for your external exams
Term 4
