Course Description

Recommended Prior Learning

You must have a willingness to using your creativity to design products or buildings to meet a need in society.


In this course students will learn to produce a technological outcome by following a design process and design thinking. You will have the opportunity to use  your creativity and building skills to create products or design buildings that serve a purpose and a need in society.  You will learn a range of design skills including how to use computer design programmes, free hand sketching techniques, draw with instruments and learn how to present your work.                                               

 Entry requirements: Open entry for those who enjoy drawing and design.

Term 1
Topic: School outdoor seating project
Internal Assessment: 1.1 Credits 5
AS 92000 Generate product or spatial design ideas using visual communication techniques in response to design influences

Students will generate design ideas for the outdoor seat using visual communication techniques in response to design influences.

Term 2
Topic: School outdoor seating project
Internal Assessment 1.2 CREDITS 5
AS 92001 Use representation techniques to visually communicate own product or spatial design outcome

Students will use representation techniques to visually communicate the outdoor seat.
Student will apply techniques to visually communicate the three-dimensional form, features, and materiality of the design outcome.

Term 3
Topic: School outdoor seating project
External Assessment 1.3 CREDITS 5
AS 92002 Develop product or spatial design ideas informed by the consideration of people

Develop product or spatial design ideas informed by the consideration of people involves:
- Generating design ideas that incorporate functional and aesthetic features relating to the needs of people and connection to a place
using visual communication techniques to show the main features of the design ideas.

Term 4
Submission of portfolio
Student to select the relevant evidence required for the external portfolio.
