Course Description
Teacher in Charge: Ms L. Keating.
Students will develop a critical response to the analysis of film and develop an informed understanding of literature using critical texts. All writing generated will contribute to the writing portfolio. Students will sit two examinations at the end of the year. This course is a university pre-approved course. Students who take this course must be independent and self directed learners who are proficient in reading and writing to NZ curriculum level 7. This means that in Year 12 English you were able to independently read text, understand and write an analysis independently. This course is designed for the university bound student. The course has a pre-requisite which means that to gain entry into this course you must have achieved 14 achievement standard credits in Year 12.
Course Overview
Term 1
Students will closely read film and complete an essay.
Term 2
Students will research critical texts and write a report.
Term 3
Writing portfolios will be graded. Students will prepare for the examination.
Term 4
Students will continue to prepare for the examination.
Recommended Prior Learning
The course has a pre-requisite which means that to gain entry into this course students must have achieved 14 achievement standard credits in Y12. It requires HOD consultation and approval - this also extends to the deans and Achievement Centre who wish to enter students throughout the year.

Pathway Possibilities
In this course we will develop critical response to analysis of texts. We will develop expository, and creative writing writing skills. Also, we will share our analyses in an oral presentation; connect key ideas across texts; and respond to a text in the end of year exam. This course is a university pre-approved course.
