Course Description

In this course we will develop reading and writing skills across a range of NCEA levels 2 and 3 in Practical English. This course is not university approved. It is not for the university bound student. However, it will contribute to your NCEA level 3 certificate.
Course Overview
Term 1
Students will write in plain English.
Term 2
Students will use information literacy skills to research a topic related to English.
Term 3
Students will develop a writing portfolio.
Term 4
Students will complete the writing portfolio.
Recommended Prior Learning
This course is for students who have attempted NCEA levels 1 and 2 English with some independence and achievement.
Contributions and Equipment/Stationery
A chrome book is recommended but not a requirement.

Assessment Information
There are two examinations available at NCEA level 2 as an option for students who want to try to achieve University Entrance Literacy which comprises 5 reading credits and 5 writing credits. There are three achievement standards offered at NCEA level 3 and two unit standards at NCEA level 3 for students to attempt.Credit Information
