Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Ms X. Yu.

Students will learn to read, write and interact in the Mandarin language and culture related to everyday topic.  

The course prepares you to gain knowledge of Chinese language as well as Chinese Culture and values. This course offers 20 credits towards NCEA Level 1. There are two internal standards worth 10 credits and two external standards worth 10 credits.  

This course can be endorsed with Merit or Excellence if in a single year you gain required credits at Merit and/or Excellence within Level 1 Mandarin.

Recommended Prior Learning

Students are recommended to take our Year 10 Mandarin class, or seek the advice of the Mandarin teacher and the authority from our HOD.

Assessment Information

Method of assessment:
• Interaction: Submissions should consist of a minimum of two interactions. The interactions must take place in real time and show that the student can use spoken [Target Language] to respond to new information, ideas, and opinions.
• Communication: Submissions should consist of one project. The submission may be in written Chinese, spoken Chinese (Mandarin), or a combination of both.
• Externals: Format of external assessments to be updated

You will be assessed in this course through all or a selection of the standards listed below.

This course is eligible for subject endorsement.

This course is approved for University Entrance.
