Students will look at the design and development of Fashion and its effect on what we wear. They will also look at how fabric is made and research what makes it fit for purpose. Sewing skills will be improved as will students’ ability to use and alter commercial patterns as well as domestic and industrial sewing machines.
Term 1
AS91356 - Develop a conceptual design for an outcome (6 credits)
Us1540 - Set up, adjust, and operate a domestic lockstitch sewing machine (3 credits)
Learning how to set up, thread, operate and care for the domestic lockstitch sewing machine safely and correctly.
Term 2
US5302 - Cut single ply material by shears in the clothing industry (3 credits)
Pattern Symbols, Pattern Markings, Pattern Layout and cutting of the patterns on the fabric.
Term 3
US20342 - Thread and operate an industrial lockstitch sewing machine in a learning environment (7 credits)
Learning how to set up, thread, operate and care for the industrial lockstitch sewing machine accurately and safely.
Producing samples of work using the industrial lockstitch sewing machine.
Term 4
Completion of assessments and resubmissions.
Assessments will be done internally at school - both practical and portfolio work.
This leads to level 3 Fashion course where students learn how to use the sewing machines and over lockers, design their garments for the chosen occasion and explore the Fashion Tech opportunities at tertiary level.
