This course is for those students who have come to New Zealand recently and who are developing their skills in spoken and written English.
The course will be based around interesting and useful topics and students will be given the opportunity to gain English Language credits. Courses will be adapted to fit the student’s ability.
Standards and levels will be decided through individual programmes and those in Year 12 who are capable of achieving credits at higher levels will be given the opportunity to do so.
Term 1
In term one we will look at ourselves, our identity and how we would describe our strengths and weaknesses. This will be followed up with an interview.
If there is time, we will look at water safety and driving skills, and we will do a reading assessment.
Term 2
Term 2 is personal extensive reading and students will be given the opportunity to read widely from their own interests and writing short responses. There is a 5 credit assessment around this
Term 3
Narratives and Biographies = looking at the lives of famous people as well events in our owns lives. We will also focus on different types of writing such as letter writing for jobs, writing a CV, writing emails.
