3 Fashion Focus

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Ms N. Singh.

In this course we will develop design ideas and use complex procedures to produce a garment for a specific occasion. Students will continue to improve their sewing ability, pattern management and sewing machine expertise.                                               

       


    

Course Overview

Term 1
AS91610 - Develop a conceptual design considering fitness for purpose in the broadest sense.
- Sketching the design ideas
- Testing and trialing the design ideas using functional modeling
- Researching about the existing costume designs

Term 2
AS91608 - Undertake brief development to address an issue within a determined context.
- Study the issue, write the context in which the issue needs to be solved, brainstorm the needs and opportunities for the chosen celebration.
- List down the ways in which safety can be maintained in the workshop and at the chosen celebration.
- Writing down the specifications, physical attributes and functional attributes in detail.
- Stating the ways in which you can sustain the equipment/resources.

Term 3
AS91621 - Implement complex procedures using textile materials to make a specified product.
- Study of the properties of different types of fabrics.
- Testing and trialing the different processes and techniques which can be used to stitch the chosen garment.
- Research on the complex processes and techniques used in garment construction.
- Pattern layout, cutting and stitching the garment.

Term 4
Completing the assessments and doing any resubmissions.

Pathway

This is a University approved subject which leads to the pathway of either Certificate, Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Apparel and Fashion Technology by studying at Whitecliffe College of Arts and Design or at AUT.

Assessment Information

All the assessments will be done internally at school using both Fashion Portfolio and practical work.

You will be assessed in this course through all or a selection of the standards listed below.

This course is approved for University Entrance.
