2 Building Construction and Allied Trades

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Mr B. Aubrey.


This course will allow students to improve the skills that they learnt in 1 BCT to better prepare themselves for working in the trades. This course will focus on students using a range of tools and machinery to develop skills and complete projects while showcasing the skills learnt and talents that are developing.                                               

       


    

Course Overview

Term 1
Make a cupboard with a drawer as a BCATS project. Level 2 BCATS -Unit 25921 6 CREDITS
You need to show your teacher/tutor that you can follow or adapt a design for a cupboard.
The cupboard must have at least one drawer and one door. Your teacher might give you a work diary to help you record how you make it.
If you can, take photos of your project, including a photo of it completed.

Term 2

Make a cupboard with a drawer as a BCATS project. Level 2 BCATS -Unit 25921 6 CREDITS
You need to show your teacher/tutor that you can follow or adapt a design for a cupboard.

Assessment of this unit standard consists of:
→ completion of a cutting list and
→ completion of a cupboard with a drawer to an acceptable standard and
→ completion of the Assessor Observation Sheet.

Term 3
Demonstrate knowledge of health and safety legislation and apply safe working practices in a BCATS environment Level 2 BCATS - Unit 24354 4 CREDITS
You need to complete at least one BCATS project where you can demonstrate your knowledge of health and safety legislation and safe working practices.
Your teacher/tutor will tell you which project(s) to construct.
Your teacher/tutor will also give you Knowledge Assessment Sheets that you need to complete, which they will mark.

(The next Unit Standard ....24357...may be started during Term 3 upon completion of the previous Unit Standards)

Receive instructions and communicate information in relation to BCATS projects Level 2 BCATS - Unit 24357 4 CREDITS
You need to complete BCATS projects where you can demonstrate different ways of communicating effectively. Your teacher will complete an Assessor
Observation Sheet to verify they observed you doing so.

Term 4

Recommended Prior Learning

Students should have taken a building course like 1BCT (Building and Construction).  Other subject choices could include Design and Product development (1DPD)
