Course Description

Are you interested in the world of digital technology?

In Digital Technology you will learn that the subject is not just about computers: You will be given the opportunity to learn the basics of:

✔ Computers, hardware and software

✔ Using software applications for language, spreadsheets, games and graphics and storage

✔ Developing a website

✔ Simple programming to develop a mobile app

✔ The process of game design

✔ Image manipulation

✔ How to plan, develop and extend design ideas and explore creative solutions on the computer

This is an opportunity to establish skills that you can use in all your other subjects while at school, and you will use these skills for the rest of your life! Everyone needs to know how to use a computer. 

Course Overview

Term 1
In term one, we look at what it means to be a good digital citizen, which is all about how to be safe and respectful when online. Then use what we've learned to design and create a digital poster; learning skills such as image manipulation using Gimp or Photoshop.

Term 2
In term two, we become web warriors! We learn how to begin designing a website, starting with concept designs using wireframes. We then create web pages with text, images and links using HTML and CSS, the code behind the web.

Term 3
Term three is all about becoming coding stars. We'll be exploring the fundamentals of game design and then develop our own games.

Term 4
In term four, we will continue our coding journey as we learn about mobile app development.

Pathway

A student choosing Digital Technology as an option in Year 10 will have the opportunity to continue exploring the digital world.

Topics covered will include; how to be safe and respectful when online, designing and creating digital posters, building web pages, coding games and apps and how computers are put together and communicate with each other.

Year 10 Digital Technology will prepare students who want to continue their Digital Technology journey into senior school, where they will have the opportunity to be part of P-TECH, a pathway into tertiary education and a career in the Information Technology industry.

Assessment Information

Assessments over the four terms will be used to indicate progression and cover all aspects of the Technology curriculum.
